Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden exists to promote the sustainable use, conservation, appreciation and enjoyment of the exceptionally rich plant life of South Africa, for the benefit of all people. Sprawled majestically on the rolling foothills, beneath the mighty eastern buttresses of Table Mountain, twixt vertical rock walls and plush suburbia, lies arguably the foremost and greatest botanical garden in the entire world. Unsurpassed and peerless in presentation, Kirstenbosch is more than just a botanical garden, it is a place which represents the Floral Kingdom of the Western Cape and over the years has become a symbol of Cape Town. A place that is as much a part of the Cape as Table Mountain itself. Many people come to Kirstenbosch for relaxation and to absorb the staggering beauty and wonderful ambience. All the time with the magnificent backdrop of Table Mountain ever-present. Teas, lunches and dinners can also be enjoyed at one of the three eateries in the garden, serving anything from light teas and sandwiches to sumptuous meals of wild game and traditional fare. For the more energetic, Kirstenbosch is also the gateway to the slopes of the mountain itself and one can enjoy easy strolls in the garden to more exciting trails up to the Contour Path. For the more adventurous, the top of the mountain can be gained by the popular Skeleton Gorge or Nursery Ravine.
