About: Lithops of Namibia

The succulent, and especially, the Lithops plant collection at Alte Kalkofen Lodge west of Keetmanshoop in southern Namibia has been an attraction since the Lodge opened its doors for business in September 2010. A large number of the visitors to the lodge are European tourists who often request more information about the Lithops than we can provide during their visits to the collection. The lack of concise, take-away information available on the plants in the collection prompted us to write this book. Although the book was consequently written for a specific market, it may have a wider appeal as it includes up-to-date information from the long-term ecological studies on several Lithops species in Namibia. The Cole Lithoparium is so named in recognition of Desmond and Naureen Cole for their invaluable contribution to our present knowledge of these plants.
