Common Amphibians and Reptiles of Botswana attempts to illustrate that amphibians and reptiles add to the diversity of wildlife in Southern Africa. Amphibians and reptiles are an integral link, through food chains and food webs, in the survival of mammals, fishes, birds and human beings. Most of the amphibians and reptiles are useful creatures and harmless to man. They control populations of pests that damage our crops and granaries, and some are a delicacy. Poison from some of the dangerous snakes is a source of anti-venom used to save human life after snakebites. Surely this contribution will make a difference in the way readers, be they students, teachers, conservationists or enthusiastic readers, will handle and regard amphibians and reptiles.
