Khaudum Game Reserve
Khaudum is wild, four-wheel drive country. Its remoteness might add to its charm, but it demands travelling in a group with adequate supplies. The lack of fencing around Khaudum (with the exception of the boundary with Botswana) allows animals to leave the park in search of fresh grazing and water during the rainy season, thus ensuring an abundance of wildlife to enjoy, particularly wild dogs and roan antelope.
Game viewing is best in winter, as long as you have patience and discipline: these free-roaming animals don't take kindly to noise, particularly from humans and their vehicles! The artificial waterholes provide some of the best wildlife spotting Heavier summer rain thickens the dry woodland savannah (located on settled parts of the Kalahari's sand dunes), which encourages an abundance of birdlife for 'twitchers' to enjoy.
