Dr. Najma Dharani forscht und arbeitet als Pflanzen- und Umwelt-Ökologin und Autorin im kenianischen Naturschutz für das World Agroforestry Centre in Nairobi. Najma Dharani versucht mit zahlreichen Vortragsreisen, besonders in den ländlichen Räumen des gesamten östlichen Afrika, die Bevölkerung über die Bedeutung und Wichtigkeit der Pflanzen-, Vogel- und Tierwelt für den gemeinsamen Naturkreislauf aufzuklären. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit ist die Ethnobotanik und die Wiederaufforstung. Dr. Najma Dharani hat bislang vier botanische Bestimmungsbücher für den ostafrikanischen Raum publiziert.
