Chris Schoeman stammt aus dem südafrikanischen Distrikt Somerset East, wo er in ländlicher Umgebung aufwuchs. Nach seinem Wehrdienst an der Panzertruppenschule (School of Armour) in Bloemfontein studierte Chris Schoeman Geschichte an der University of Port Elizabeth (MSc). Während seiner ersten Berufsjahre war er als Archivmitarbeiter, als Protokollführer im Parlament und als Historiker des Nationalen Denkmalrates in Südafrika tätig. Nach einer beruflichen Episode in den USA, kehrte Chris Schoeman nach Südafrika zurück, wo er als Denkmalpfleger in der Stadtverwaltung von Kapstadt sowie als Journalist für die Tageszeitungen Cape Town Daily und Die Burger und für zwei Rugby-Magazine arbeitete. Sowie über südafrikanische Sport- und Geschichtsthemen, besonders über die Anglo-Burenkriege, hat Chris Schoeman etliche Bücher geschrieben und lebt in Sunset Beach bei Kapstadt.
