Jacqui Taylor, gebürtig aus Simbabwe, besuchte die Schule in Harare und studierte angewandte Kunst und Design am Bulawayo Technical College. Vor ihrer Heirat, die sie nach Hong Kong führte, arbeitete Jacqui Taylor einige Jahre in der Werbebranche. In Hong Kong illustrierte und schrieb sie ihr erstes Kinderbuch, das 1994 im Selbstverlag erschien. Nach Ihrer Rückkehr nach Simbabwe im Jahr 1995 folgte An African ABC, ebenfalls ein Kinderbuch. Weitere Titel, die bei Random House Struik verlegt wurden, sind Kubuka and the Magic Calabash (2004), Namakwa’s Garden (2005), A Baobab is Big (2004), The Queen of Green (2010). Neben dem Schreiben verdient Jacqui Taylor ihren Lebensunterhalt mit Vorlesungen in Kunst in Harare sowie Auftragsarbeiten in Design.
