Pippa Skotnes wurde in Johannesburg geboren. Sie studierte Kunst und Literatur an der University of Cape Town und schloß die Fächer mit dem Master bzw. dem Doktortitel ab. Pippa Skotnes veröffentlichte etliche Kunstbände und organisierte eigene Ausstellungen in Südafrika, in denen Sie südafrikanische ethnologische Inhalte mit Kunstformen durchsetzte. Pippa Skotnes ist Mitbegründerin des Verlages Axeage Private Press und zur Zeit als Professorin für Kunst und als Direktorin des Centre for Curating the Archivean der University of Cape Town tätig.
