Getaway Guide to Route 62 and Overberg, by Brent Naude-Moseley and Steve Moseley
From a tourist’s point of view, Getaway Guide to Route 62 and Overberg provides an alternative means of travelling between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, taking the traveller through towns and scenery very different to that seen on the N2 coastal highway. Authors are Brent Naude-Moseley and Steve Moseley.
Getaway Guide to Route 62 and Overberg by Brent Naude-Moseley and Steve Moseley is designed to assist independent travellers, but is by no means a comprehensive guide. We've chosen to focus on the smaller, lesser-known places covered by Route 62 (including the Winelands, Little Karoo, and the Langkloof) and the region known as the Overberg. Some may wonder at how we managed to come up with the idea of combining a predominantly coastal region with a semidesert inland route not usually associated with each other. The reason is that the regions flow into each other - and, individually, offer a variety of attractions - and together they make up an uninterrupted chunk of the Southern Cape in which to plan a new holiday experience. In the first three chapters, we provide some background and practical travel information on aspects of the region most relevant to visitors, as well as a brief look at the plants, animals and landscapes of the area's national parks and reserves. Finally, we offer an overview of what travellers might expect to encounter here. Chapters 4 to 9 cover Route 62, in a west-to-east direction, starting with the Winelands region, through the Little Karoo, and then into the Langkloof. These chapters cover the main towns in each respective region, offering useful information on where to sleep, eat and drink, and some of what there is to see and do. Chapters 10 and 11 cover the Overberg region, and provide useful information on what can be expected in terms of activities and accommodation. These chapters also showcase the region's main attractions and activities, as well as the many individual destinations listed. For easy reference this volume lists alphabetically the towns and stopovers within the individual regions, which makes these destinations readily accessible and easy to navigate - and investigate! If you would like to venture beyond our suggested routes and stopovers, contact the relevant tourist information.
