Prof. Dr. Neil Crouch ist stellvertretender Direktor des ethnobotanischen Zweigs des South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) in Durban, wo er außerdem Chemie an der University of KwaZulu-Natal lehrt. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt in erster Linie auf den Medizinalpflanzen Südafrikas und deren Nutzbarkeit in der pharmazeutischen Produktentwicklung. Neil Crouch hat zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Beiträge sowie etliche Bücher zu botanischen Themen, darunter über die Farne des südlichen Afrika, verfaßt.
