Braam van Wyk
Professor Dr. Braam van Wyk ist ein Botaniker und Autor in Südafrika.
Abraham Erasmus "Braam" van Wyk, Jahrgang 1952, wuchs auf einer Farm nahe dem in der North-West Province gelegenen Ort Wolmaransstad, auf. Schon früh interessierte er sich für naturkundliche Themen, insbesondere für Pflanzen. Braam van Wyk studierte Botanik an der Potchefstoom University und promovierte an der University of Pretoria, wo er seit 1977 als Dozent und, seit jüngerer Zeit, als Professor für Botanik und als Kurator des H.G.W.J. Schweickerdt Herbariums tätig ist. Professor Dr. Braam van Wyk ist ein Autorität auf dem Gebiet der Klassifikation von Baumarten im südlichen Afrika und hat Forschungsschwerpunkte auf dem Gebiet botanischer Systematik, Anatomie und Palynologie sowie der Biogeografie. Braam van Wyk hat, teilweise zusammen mit seinen Studenten und akademischen Kollegen, wie dem 2006 verstorbenen Dr. Piet van Wyk, viele Fachbücher und zahllose wissenschaftliche Beiträge über die Planzen des südlichen Afrika geschrieben. Unter etlichen Ehrungen und Auszeichnungen erhielt Professor Dr. Braam van Wyk die Silbermedaille der South African Association of Botanists und den Allen Dyer Award of the Succulent Society of South Africa.
