About: The Battle of Modder Spruit and Tchrengula

The Battle of Modder Spruit and Tchrengula on 30 October 1899 had been one of the hardest fights in the annals of the British Forces. It was evident that any simple frontal attack by infantry only against the Boers using bolt-action rifles, was effectively impossible. It took the British ten days to evacuate their casualties, receive further reinforcements and repair their lines of communications. Meanwhile the Boers built the entrenchments which they were to use effectively in the Battle of Magersfontein which fought on 11 December 1899. Steve Watt introduces to the events in this 3rd volume of The Anglo-Boer War Battle Series published by 30 Degrees South Publishers (Pty) Ltd.
