About: Taming the Landmine

Taming the Landmine is an excellent illustrated book on the development of landmine-protected vehicles. After the initial section on early armoured vehicles and their protective capabilities, the book focuses on the development through trial, error and experience of mine protected vehicles firstly in Rhodesia in response to the terrorist mining campaign and then in South Africa as the threat escalated. It provides a large number of photographs of the various vehicles that were developed and used, ending with the actual South African mine-protected armoured fighting vehicles which are some of the best available in the world. This told for the first time, is the remarkable story of those developments as well as the historical events that shaped them. All in all Taming the Landmine s a very good read while the accompanying photos really make the book.
