This first edition of Cederberg Rock, is laid out much the same way as the previous Western Cape Rock guidebook. The book covers the greater Cederberg area and some outlying areas, starting from Rocklands in the north, then working down to the south in order of sequence, to Houdenbek in the south, with the various outlying areas coming at the back of the book. Cederberg is one of the most unique, wild and beautiful climbing destinations in South Africa and is an absolute must visit to climb on the multitude of crags, walls and mountains that it is famous for.
This sport climbing guide is packed with many new climbs, crags and whole new areas. All the areas and crags have maps, diagrams or info explaining where to park and how to approach the various crags, etc. Furthermore, each crag has a topo photo with the routes marked on it as well as a 'quick guide' graph which indicates how many routes at the crag, rough grade categories and the length of the routes/height of the crag. All sport routes are marked in yellow/black dotted lines, and projects in white/black dotted lines.
The introduction and information section will give you all you need to know with regards to access, ethics, weather, best time to climb in the Cederberg area, what to do on rest days, bolting, emergency procedures, etc. It also explains the different symbols, terms and abbreviations used, as well as a grade table. Also included is a Safety at the Crags section, as there are many climbers coming into the sport via indoor climbing centres who could gain some knowledge on belaying, leading and general crag practices, before venturing out onto the rock.
