About: Hiking Cape Town 35 spectacular hikes in and around Cape Town

This guide showcases many of the best, most accessible and enjoyable hikes in the Table Mountain National Park and some further afield. Hiking Cape Town 35 spectacular hikes in and around Cape Town is aimed at hikers who enjoy a reasonable level of fitness, which means that most of the routes range from easy to moderately difficult. A few strenuous outings that require a higher degree of hiking fitness and stamina are also included. Some of the route descriptions provide 'add-ons', these are short or long detours or extensions to the hike, to suit those who may appreciate the challenge of going just that little bit further. The majority of hikes featured here are 3.5-5 hours long, with the longest being 7-8 hours. Distances are given in kilometres, and range from 5 to 18 km. While most durations given include stops to enjoy a snack or admire the view, they also take into account the type of terrain and the number and degree of steep inclines covered along the way. Most of the hikes start and end at the same place, either following a circular route or using the same path to return to the starting point. A few start and end at different locations, requiring a car, taxi or e-hailing service to get back to the start. GPS coordinates for the starting point of each hike are given in decimal degrees. This format expresses latitude and longitude geographic coordinates as decimal fractions of a degree and is compatible with GPS devices and web mapping applications such as Google Maps. Each hike description is also accompanied by a route map that is easy to follow.
