Description:

Remarkable Birds of South Africa is not a typical field guide to our country's avifauna. The aims of field guides are twofold: First they are well illustrated to enable birders to identify the birds they encounter, and have become a specialized industry with an art form of their own. The second aim of a field guide is to indicate on accompanying maps the natural distribution of each bird species, preferably indicating seasonality and as accurately as feasible. Differently, the objective of this book is to introduce the reader to a wider understanding South African birds by discussing bird families and their inter-relationships, highlighted by aspects of our most interesting and intriguing species. Field guides, due to their more limited scope and concentration on identification tor birders, are simply unable to supply the mass of data contained in a handbook.
