Description:

In Catching the Moment: Photographing Wildlife In a Timeless Wilderness, photographers Richard du Toit and Gerald Hinde share a wealth of advice and useful information on how they captured the images. Each photograph is accompanied by a caption that includes precise technical detail. Anyone who, camera in hand, visits a nature reserve, game park or any accessible wilderness area will find this book a valuable, informative and inspiring guide. This behind-the-scenes account of photographing in the wilderness of Botswana will inspire photographers everywhere. The pictures in Catching the Moment: Photographing Wildlife In a Timeless Wilderness were taken at the Khwai River on the edge of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Although they have both been professional wildlife photographers for several years, neither of them has had any formal training in this field. In their experience, this is true of most amateur wildlife photographers. Most of them are best described as naturalists and nature lovers with a special passion for photography. Richard du Toit and Gerald Hinde photographed the river and its wildlife over the course of a year; beginning in summer and ending in the spring. Southern Africa does not really experience four equal seasons. There are only two seasons every year: the wet season (summer) and the dry season (winter), linked by short periods of transition. Each of these times of year offers wildlife photographers particular opportunities.
