Description:

Many of the famous adventures of Jock of the Bushveld happened during journeys to and from the east coast of southern Africa. The route followed by the transport riders of the time, including Jock's creator, Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, would have taken them through the southern parts of what is today South Africa's premier game reserve, the Kruger National Park, which was proclaimed in 1926. The Park is proud of its link with Jock, and commemorating him is the Jock of the Bushveld memorial about 18 kilometres north of the Malelane Gate. Jock is close to the hearts of the people of the Lowveld and there are many other places which honour his memory including a statue in the Barberton Park and a large acacia tree outside the town where dog and master often camped. There is even a Jock of the Bushveld Trail which is run by the Wilderness Leadership School in the Hans Hoheisen Private Game Reserve.
