Description:

Although this book has its background the Anglo-Boer War, it is not a military history book in the traditional sense, dominated by military leaders and detailed accounts of battles. Instead it focuses on Churchill's footsteps across South Africa and looks at the places he visited, the people he met and his interactions with them, and the variety of landscapes he encountered. Churchill traversed all four provinces of Victorian South Africa, the Cape Colony, Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal. He even travelled as far as Komatipoort on the Mozambican border, so the whole country is well represented in this account. Churchill's South Africa aims to convey through Churchill's own words, supplementary sources and contemporary and present-day photographs.
