This fascinating and excellent book on public and farm based water affairs in South West Africa was written by the German civil engineer Heinz Walter Stengel, who lived in S.W.A. from 1929 until his death in 1979. His most interesting contributions focus on innovations and practical solutions in extracting, retenting and transporting the precious and scarce water. H. W. Stengel, teaming with his superior Dr. Otto Wipplinger, then director of The Public Works and Water Affairs of the SWA Administration in Windhoek, had planned and built many well known water facilities such as the Hardap Dam and the Naute Dam. Also, the book, that then was sponsored by Dr. Erich Lübbert, gives interesting insight in the history of public water supply and dam building in South West Africa.
