Most visitors come to the Kruger National Park to see animals and marvel at their behaviour and diversity, but let's not forget the ever-present vegetation, without which no animals would survive. Plants play a vital role in the existence of larger land animals, not only as a source of food, but also because they provide a suitable habitat for wildlife. Trees of Kruger (Nature Now) describes and illustrates 80 of the larger, more conspicuous and common tree species that you may see on your travels in the Kruger National Park. The aim is to help you make accurate identifications of these majestic plants. Each tree species is showcased over two pages, combining photographs of the most representative features with concise text descriptions that use minimal botanical jargon. Many tree identification books require access to and contact with the plant itself, but obviously this is not possible in the Park, as much of the time you will be viewing trees and wildlife from the safety of a vehicle. So these tree accounts focus on distinctive details that are visible either with the naked eye - often from a distance - or through a pair of binoculars. Many of the tree species in Kruger, including some of the rarer ones, also occur in the rest camps, either naturally or because they were planted there, but those trees are more likely to have ID tags, removing the need for guesswork.
