The species accounts in A Photographic Guide to Tracks and Tracking in Southern Africa are arranged in logical order, from reptiles and amphibians through the ground-feeding birds to the mammalian predators and herbivores. Each account carries at least one full-colour photograph of the relevant life form, illustrations of the footprint and, where appropriate, of other signs, and a brief description of the animal, its size, habitat, habits, food, spoor and other signs of its presence. The overall coverage is selective rather than comprehensive: we have included the more common birds and reptiles (snakes appear in a composite entry) and most, though not all, the mammals. Of special interest is the feature on the tracks and signs of some of the more common insects one finds in veld and garden, and 'gallery' of pictures comprising a representative selection of animal droppings. Distribution maps have been included where appropriate. Also included are a glossary and an index. Author Louis Liebenberg is a world authority on animal spoor identification.
Features include:
• Clear diagnostic drawings of more than 125 animal tracks
• 175 full-colour photographs of animals and signs
• Up-to-date distribution maps
• Special features on insects and scat
