In dieser Ausgabe Namibiana Vol. II (2) 1980 schrieben Antje Otto und Dr. K F R. Budack erstmals ein Vorwort in Englisch, um der Mehrsprachigkeit der Schriftenreihe Namibiana: Mitteilungen der ethnologisch-historischen Arbeitsgruppe der S.W.A. Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft nicht nur in den Beiträgen unter Beweis zu stellen. Der sehr interessante Beitrag von Ursula Massmann über die sogenannten Kampwitwen, deren Ehemänner, wie auch ihrer, in südafrikanischen Gefangenenlagern interniert waren, ist hier in Deutsch verfaßt.

As was stated in the German foreword to the first edition of NAMIBIANA, it was and still is our sincere desire to offer its pages to all those people who take an interest in the ethnography and history of our country. There has been a long-felt need for the publication of observations and findings by South-Westers and South-West enthusiasts of all population groups, at home and abroad. An exchange of facts and opinions may stimulate others to appreciate this land of eternal splendour.

Prof. Alan Barnard's paper analyses and evaluates Khoesan culture, Mr John Kinahan summarizes our present state of knowledge about early copper mining, Mrs Ursula Massmann looks back to the sad times of war and internment camps, often smiling through her tears. Pastor Walter Moritz' contributions about the +Aonin or Topnaar will be the first in a series of papers concerning these highly interesting people. Oom Piet Oberholster and Carl Pieter Hesse relate the story of a gang of marauders in the extreme south, dating back to 1909.

Mr Etienne du Pisani gives us a bird's eye view of the cultural diversity within our country. Finally, the Rev. Father Alfred Zaby rescues from oblivion that eminent hero of the north-western Dama, Idab. Last but not least we are grateful for the high standard of workmanship afforded to us by Messrs John Meinert (Pty) Ltd., especially to the members of the composing department under the management of Mr Paul Witt.
