Eine freundliche Kindergeschichte, die gedanklich an der Vorstellungswelt der Khoekhoen anküpft.

Description:

Inspired by the almost magical transformation of the Namaqualand region each spring, from an arid place to a fairyland of flower carpets, Mary Clanahan has created a tale of natural wonder for children.

Although he loves his land, chief Nama Kwa feels sure that the Great Spirit must have been angry when he made the land and left it with such a dry scar.

Nama Kwa's people want to surprise him with a wonderful gift on his birthday; they persuade his wife, Nio, to take him on a long trip, during which time they set about creating a garden for him...

Although not based on a folktale, the characters are sourced from what is known about the Khoekhoen, herders who lived in the area 2000 years ago.

It is thought that the Khoisan of southern Africa are descended from the Khoekhoen. Clanahan's descriptive imagery conjures up the Namaqualand landscape with remarkable accuracy and beauty, which is well complemented by Jaqui Taylor's detailed illustrations.
