About: Birds of Zambia (Pocket Guide)

Zambia is home to around 782 bird species; however it is often underrated as a birding destination. This pocket guide describes 425 bird species commonly seen in Zambia, plus several 'specials' for the country. Chaplin's Barbet and Black-cheeked Lovebird are the only two species endemic to Zambia, while a third species, White-chested Tinkerbird, if indeed a true species, has only ever been recorded once, in 1964. Zambia's national parks and Important Bird Areas (IBAs) offer some of the best bird sightings in the country. There are 20 national parks, covering about 30 per cent of the country. Many of these are well known, such as South and North Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, Kafue and Mosi oa Tunya. Lesser-known parks that also offer good birding include Liuwa Plain, Lochinvar, Blue Lagoon, Kasanka and Nyika. The remaining ones are more off the beaten track. The Birds of Zambia Pocket Guide features concise identification text, including status, habitat and call, as well as full-colour photographs of all species, up-to-date distribution maps covering habitats and key birding destinations.
