Der aus Witwatersrand, Südafrika, stammende Roger de la Harpe gab in den 1980er Jahren seinen Beruf in der Schwerindustrie auf und zog mit seiner Frau Pat de la Harpe in die Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, um dort als Ranger, später als der offizielle Fotograf der Parkverwaltung zu arbeiten. Seit 1997 ist Roger de la Harpe als Fotograf und Autor freiberuflich tätig, arbeitete ab zahlreichen Buchprojekten mit und schrieb regelmäßig Reiseberichte für Africa Geographic, Getaway, BBC Wildlife, Wanderlust, Wildside, und das deutsche GEO von den zahlreichen Exkursionen, die er in allen Teilen Afrikas unternommen hat. Roger de la Harpe ist Inhaber einer gewerblichen Bilddatenbank zu verschiedenen Themenbereichen Afrikas.
