Julie J. Taylor studierte von 1997 bis 1999 am Mahindra United World College of India. Im Zeitraum 1999–2002 studierte sie an der University of Cambridge, wo sie den BA (Hons) in Sozialanthropologie über eine Arbeit über die Situation weißer Farmer in Simbabwe erlangte. Von 2003–2005 absolvierte Julie J. Taylor an der Oxford University den Masterabschluß in Entwicklungsforschung, um dann von 2005 bis 2007 auf ihre Promovierung hinzuarbeiten, für die sie über das Thema Naming the Land: Identity, Authority and Environment in Namibia's West Caprivi forschte. Im Auftrag der Oxford University und der Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conversation (IRDNC), war sie als wissenschaftliche Assistentin von 2003 bis 2006 im Caprivi, Namibia, eingesetzt. Als Doktorandin führte Julie J. Taylor von 2006-2007 Projekte für das International Institute for Sustainable Development in Algerien und Island durch. Seit ihrer Promotion arbeitet die Anthropologin im Bereich Kommunikation für das Unternehmen Google, zunächst in London, von 2009-2010 in Johannesburg, Südafrika, und seit Mitte 2010 als Kommunikations- und Marketingchefin für den Sub-Sahara Bereich Afrikas.
