Description:

For many years South West Africa has been one of the most popular countries in Africa in which serious philatelists have displayed their interest. The period under German occupation has received detailed attention from several renowned philatelists and postal historians, and the likelihood of additional information being discovered to augment these researches is minimal.

However, the period from the end of World War 1 under South African control, and which is brimful of interest, has suffered from a certain neglect in so far as it's Postal History is concerned. It is this gap in the story of S.W.A's philately that it is hoped this book will fill. In compiling this handbook the author has attempted, with considerable success, to record and illustrate every known postmark used from 1914 to date.

In addition, all the available and relevant postal information pertaining to each office has been consolidated and included in the alphabetical postmark listing. An innovation that merits particular mention is the introduction of small maps identifying the location of the offices in question. Special attention has been accorded to the South African campaign markings of 1914-1915 and the Railway cancellations in use from 1915 to 1977.
