Description:

The Table Mountain chain embraces the backbone of the Cape Peninsula. It is a huge sprawling and complex range of mountains that covers a vast amount of ground. For ease of use, this guide is divided into sections, starting in the south with Elsie's Peak and running up the eastern side of the Peninsula to the north, across the northern front of Table Mountain, then down the western Apostles to Bee Buttress above Llandudno, finally ending with a section on Lion's Head. Each section and subsection has information, diagrams and photos pertaining to access, approach, descents, weather and aspect, climbing history, nature of the climbing and, of course, written route descriptions of each route with high quality colour photo topos depicting the lines of the routes.

Most of the routes have been drawn in bright yellow, but where lines cross, different colour are used to avoid confusion. Dotted lines of the same colour as solid route lines indicate a variation to that route. In certain cases, an indication has been given of approach times. These are strictly approximate and will vary depending on fitness and size of parties. Cape Peninsula Select: A guide to trad climbing in the Cape Peninsula contains over 380 of the best trad routes. Routes of all grades and seriousness from single-pitch to long multi-pitch routes; slabby routes to vertical walls to overhanging pumpfests. Beginner climbs to climbs that have seen only a handful of repeats and some with no repeats at all. This climbing guide is well illustrated with some excellent photos of most of the classic routes.
