Description:

The Dynamics of Treason is a most interesting work, which covers the South African War period from 1900 to 1907.

As for boer collaboration It focuses primarily on two groups of Free State and Transvaal burghers.

Groups which, in the Boer vernacular and general usage, were known as the hendsoppers (burghers who surrendered voluntarily) and the joiners (those who fought on the British side).

This period saw a devastating war in which the ingenious military skills and remarkable endurance of the Boer generals and their burghers quite justifiably earned them high praise from many quarters.

Just as remarkable was the resilience shown by the defeated volk in their recovery after the war.

As far as the dissident burghers who are discussed in this study were concerned, it was a period of despair, divided loyalty, unrealistic peace missions, dishonourable service to the enemy, broken promises, disillusionment and finally, realisation of guilt.
