Description:
David Bristow's popular hiking guide, now in its third, updated edition, describes close to 100 graded hikes of varying lengths and levels of difficulty in eight sections of the KwaZulu-Natal mountain site. Some hikes have a specific goal while others have been chosen for the simple pleasure of being in a place of natural majesty away from distractions.
Hikes are included for their scenic value, element of challenge, cave paintings and swimming spots. This book is easy to use and there is an easy-to-use map for each hike. It contains general information about the formation of the mountains, flora and fauna, weather conditions, hiking equipment, mountain ethics, the human history and Bushman rock art.
David Bristow is an entertaining writer with a palpable love of the Berg. His writing is factual and he doesn't beat about the bush. He has written several books about hiking, walks and scenery, among them Drakensberg Walks and Mountains of South Africa.
David Bristow is a journalist, photographer, ecologist / environmentalist and stubborn mountaineer. He lives in Pinelands with his wife and son, and is currently editor of Getaway magazine. He has climbed Africa's four highest peaks and was part of the SA Himalayan Expedition in 1982.
