Abgesehen vom wesentlich fachlicheren Platter’s Guide to South African Wines, gibt es z. Z. keine reisefähige Alternative zu diesem handlichen Weinführer für Südafrika. Hier erhalten Sie alle Information für die Planung einer Weinreise an das Kap, preiswert, kompetent und jahresaktuell.
How to use the handbook:
All you need in order to participate in the Cape Winelands experience is an appreciation of the good things in life, passion, curiosity and the Wine Tourism Handbook.
The book has nine chapters covering ail aspects of wine tourism in South Africa. We've provided a glossary of common wine terms, information on some of the most popular varietals and tips for getting the best out of your Winelands experience.
In addition we've included the Easy Wine Guide, which provides wine options from all the regions to suit every pocket.
Wine routes:
The Winelands are divided into wine routes. All cellars on these routes are included along with maps, contact details and opening hours.
This year we've included a number of new features, such as a distance indicator of the region from Cape Town and the local tourism bureau's contact details.
You will also find much more on some of the farms on the pages following the maps - these include GPS coordinates, a little on the history of the producer, as well as their key attractions.
You'll find some cellar door, dining and accommodation suggestions incorporated with each route, these are colour-coded for easy reference.
Wine tasting:
We've roped in a sommelier to give us some insight into the wonderful world of wine from a professional's point of view. We hope you'll be so enchanted by the local wines that you'll be inspired to stock up. Therefore we have included some hints on how to buy and store wine and where you can buy it when you get home.
Easy wine guide: Our fundis have chosen very enjoyable wines from each region in three different price brackets. There are 22 areas and the choices are categorised as under R50, from R50 to R100 and more than RI00. But this is only a small selection of the wines available. So we encourage you to go out and sample what's on offer.
Opening times: It's best you check the opening times of the cellars beforehand to avoid disappointment.
Activities in the area: If you can imagine it, it is happening in the Cape Winelands (see page 215).
Festivals and events: All major annual festivals on page 234.
