Diese 16 historischen Aufnahmen zeigen - in Postkartenform - bekannte Gebäude, Straßen und Plätze, Fahrzeuge und Passanten.

Sie stammen aus der Zeit der frühern 40er und 50er Jahre und geben einen Einblick in das Alltagsleben und der Entwicklung der europäisch geprägten Mitte der Hauptstadt Südwestafrikas.

Die Aufnahmen stammen teils von unbekannten Fotografen, teils von Ruth Dammann and Anneliese Scherz, die nun zum umfangreichen Fotoarchiv der Basler Afrika Bibliographien, Namibia Resource Centre – Southern Africa Library, in Basel sind.

Prominent buildings, streets and squares, vehicles and pedestrians: 16 historic photographs from the early 1940s and 1950s provide glimpses of everyday life in the European centre of Namibia's capital and its process of modernisation.

The pictures were taken by two unknown photographers and by Ruth Dammann and Anneliese Scherz, whose photograph collections comprise part of the extensive holdings of the Photo Archives of the Basler Afrika Bibliographien, Namibia Resource Centre – Southern Africa Library, in Basel.
