Description:
To include all the geological attractions of Namibia would be beyond the scope of one book. For this reason only the sites which are of the greatest interest to a broad number of visitors and which are situated on well accessible and the most frequented routes are covered. In addition the selected geological attractions are concentrated mainly in National Parks or publicly accessible parts of the country.
This book is essentially aimed at the geologically interested layman and hobby geologist without a scientific background. Therefore the use of technical terms is very limited and the description of processes of geology is designed to be as pictorial and vivid as possible. Experts and geological scientists should not be bothered by the simplified presentation. The technical terms used are those which may be of benefit and can, besides the explanations in the text, be consulted in the geological dictionary in the appendix.
The individual attractions of Namibia’s geology have not been caused by single or isolated phenomena but can be traced back to a series of fundamental earth processes which are inter-connected to one another. Apart from the information contained in these two basic chapters no additional geological background is needed to understand the following special chapters. This geological guide is intended as a practical handbook for travelling.
