Description:

With 'My Hungry Heart' Antoinette de Chavonnes Vrugt has produced an inspiring cooking book packed full of her food ideas and 'notes from a Namibian Kitchen'. Those of us who have visited Namibia and have eaten richly and well will love this book. Richly coloured and illustrated with Hentie Burgers photography, he is well known as a wildlife and landscape photographer and does brilliantly in this his venture into illustrating Antoinettes recipes. There’s fish off the Namibian coast, venison, and all sorts of what we regard as traditional South African foods. Maybe we should call them Southern African foods. This is a pretty and yet so practical cookbook for Namibia fans. 'My Hungry Heart' turned out to be "Best Cookbook in the World for African Cuisine" at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Example: Recipe for Pampoenkoekies

500 ml cooked pumpkin, mashed
10 ml baking powder
100 ml cake flour
2,5 ml salt
60 ml sugar mixed with
5 ml ground cinnamon
1 egg
Oil for shallow frying

Mix together pumpkin, flour, baking powder and salt. Beat egg and add to pumpking mixture to form a batter of dropping consistency. Heat oil in a pan and drop dessert-spoonfulls of batter in to the pan. Fry until golden brown on both sides. Place on kitchen towel to get rid of excess oil. Layer in serving dish sprinkled with the cinnamon sugar. Freezes very well.
